Completely forgot OGA existed last night!Įdit 2: Added a note about rendering at sizes other than 11px, and added the option to use the CC-BY license. The full license texts are included in the link as well.Įdit: Changed the link from a Google Drive link to Open Game Art. Either licence means you can use it however you like for free, including commercially. The font is licensed under the Open Font License or CC-BY, you can choose whichever you prefer and ignore the other. Font generators differ from font libraries like Google Fonts and Dafont. In that folder is also a readme file with info on the Unicode blocks covered by the font and other notes, if you're interested. Font generators are Unicode characters transformed into fonts that can be copied and pasted online (Unicode is an online protocol for displaying text). But hey, at least those of you who make pixel-perfect games by rendering at 1x and then scaling up the entire game won't have any issues! This is a limitation of bitmap fonts that I can do nothing about. If you need the font at another size, you'll need to use your engine's scaling features instead of changing the font size, or render to a texture and scale the texture. In most cases, just setting the font size to 11px should be enough. If you find the font not rendering, make sure you're using the bitmaps. From the intricate lines of Chinese calligraphy to the delicate curves of Japanese kana, youll find everything here. Whether you are looking for something traditional or modern, they will bring a special touch to your design. Note: This is a bitmap TTF with empty/dummy outlines. These Asian fonts range from the simple and elegant to the classic and ornate. There is a total of approximately 19k characters in the font. It has support for most modern European languages, Korean, good support for Japanese, and pretty good support for Chinese (Simplified, and decent for Traditional). PS! I don't know Asian scripts so I hope none of the pasted images contain insults of any kind.A recent font post here reminded me that I had my own pixel font waiting to be finished and released, so here it is! (India doesn't have the same history of calligraphy as China, but in return there's no shortage of western yoga chicks who henna paint beautifully flowing Indian characters on their persons.) Some examples of the "artistic" look I'm looking for: Chinese External font downloads only if macOS doesn't offer good enough scripts out of the box. I'm primarily looking for fonts that are available from Font Book. MacOS has dozens of "greyed out" fonts in Font Book that can be downloaded on demand, but there's no guide to help you navigate these, except downloading all of them and trying them in turn. (This question was initially posted about Chinese fonts, but I soon realised this question is relevant for other scripts too such as Japanese, Indian, Korean, etc. India has many scripts, so I'll leave it to a knowledgable person to suggest the major (or most artistic looking) scripts and corresponding calligraphic fonts for them.Īrabian scripts seem to look very hand-written by default, so suggestions are not necessary. (Let me know if some important/beautiful script are left out.) I'll update the list as suggestions come. What fonts does macOS have that give major Asian scripts an artistic, calligraphic look, as if painted by a scholar with a brush? (As opposed to a formal, computer characters.)
